Probing The Shadows

Like the surface of the moon
marked with its shadows
the hollow of the empty cup

gleamed through rings of debris
of a flavourful brew

Like the women of Bengal
I sewed stitch by stitch
collecting layers worn
                     Of years studied
under the shadow of this light,
Ruching, puckering, quilting
that canvas of emotions
that expression defies.

There is no meaning for some things
But without this anchor
the mind wanders in search

Wandering through the spirits
wandering through the world
Like a mendicant begs his alms
Experience begs meaning

It has to make some sense doesn't it?

  2. It does make sense. It tells where you questions come from (as we are in he dark, aren't we ?). And, most importantly, teaches me to read your writing. Your questions open doors to me, there is the meaning. So, thanks for talking.

    1. Thank you for those words guillaume bur, I need to write about my visual work, to be able to understand its depth better - there is always so much going on in the head when one is working with such a rich medium as fabric can be - its textures and techniques and history sometimes have a lot more to say than what I think I am saying - I find writing is realizing a deeper meaning and significance and that you found something through the writing means a lot to me. Thank you for reading.

  3. thank you Gopika for sharing your journey, as you discover yourself through your visual work and your writing....and we continue to be struck by the depth of both... and by their beauty... and yours....may you stay anchored and may you stay free... to find meaning as you let it be....and let go....

    1. Thank you Lekha, for taking out the time to read and for your encouraging words....yes, it is true - what you say is so true - thanks for this insight - that it is only when one is anchored that one is really free....to find meaning...to let it be and through that to be free.....in the only way we humans can really be free......thank you for that beautiful reminder....
